Corporal Thomas Madill

The background of this North Irish Horseman is not known at present, although the three most likely are a farmer's son from Doocarrick, County Cavan, an agricultural labourer from Drumbinnisk, County Fermanagh, and a farmer's son from Drumgrone, County Monaghan.

Madill enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 6 April and 14 May 1914 (No.937 – later Corps of Hussars No.71170). He embarked for France with C Squadron on 20 August 1914, seeing action on the retreat from Mons and advance to the Aisne.

Madill remained with the regiment throughout the war. On 11 February 1919 he was demobilised and transferred to Class Z, Army Reserve.
